Turning Baby Wipes into DIY Disinfecting Wipes -- And Other Ingredients of Baby Wet Wipes

Turning Baby Wipes into DIY Disinfecting Wipes -- And Other Ingredients of Baby Wet Wipes
1-Introduction of baby wipes
1-1What are baby wipes? Baby wipes are one of many kinds of wet wipes. A wet wipe, generally known as a wet towel or a moist towelette, sanitizing wipe, disinfecting wipe, or an antibacterial wipe.
https://preview.redd.it/ays1005grqa61.jpg?width=606&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ab9fcfc7812331e5a2e5cdb99719acadb7dc016d
Traditional baby wipes formulas generally contain alcohol and flavors. Alcohol is an effective ingredient to disinfect the skin. On the one hand, the flavors can mask the odor of the formula raw materials, and on the other hand, they can also provide various fragrance effects for the product. This formula is widely used for a long time. However, studies have found that because the permeability of newborn skin is higher than that of adults, the barrier function of infant skin has not been fully developed. It is extremely allergic and weak in resistance. It is very different from the nature of adult skin: First, the skin of infants has high water content, the pH value is high (the skin does not retain moisture); secondly, it sweats more per unit area; furthermore, babies have low sebum to dry skin. Therefore, in addition to being non-toxic to the skin and eyes, baby wipes should also pay special attention to care and safety. Baby wipes have the characteristics and features of excellent protection, high safety, and low irritation.
And because of the reason of urine and feces, the baby's buttocks are cleaned very often, and alcohol solvents can easily penetrate into the skin. Alcohol and substances have potential harm to the skin. Accumulative use will eventually cause the skin to lose its elasticity, roughness, dryness, and other irritation. Therefore, with the continuous improvement of people's level of awareness, the formula of baby wipes has also improved, using distilled water, purified water, and adding a certain amount of skincare agents, gradually becoming free of alcohol, fragrance, rich in various nutrients, and non-irritating. The development of sexual bactericidal ingredients. In this way, the baby's natural skin will remain moisturized and healthy!
1-2 when were baby wipes invented? who invented baby wipes? There are two sayings as below: The first saying about baby wipes’ history
1-2-1 In 1944 invented by Procter & Gamble In 1944, Procter & Gamble (Procter & Gamble) first introduced "baby wipes".
1-2-2 1945 initially industrialized by Scott Paper As said by Scott Paper, 1945, Original Rando Webber (the first prototype of baby wipes production machine) was made (Circa 1945-1946). 1946 Scott Paper Company’s second prototype (today’s air-laid machine) built to use as a picker lap of shoddy or reclaimed tire cord to produce a random fiber web.
Till that time, the world’s first machine designed specifically for the infant formed fabrics industry— on display at the Smithsonian Institute.

1947 Consolidate Machine Tool ships the first commercial lap-fed 40-inch Rando Webber. (http://www.randomachine.com/ourhistory.html)
1-2-3 Challenged by James River's After the mid-1980s After the mid-1980s, James River's revolutionary baby wipes structure appeared! Embossed Kroyer air-laid dry tissues with ethylene-vinyl acetate spray bonding. This product combines many characteristics of Scott products, but the product has better uniformity, higher bulkiness, and lower cost. For several years, this product has shared the baby wipes market with Rando products.
1-2-4 Breaking the monopoly by Kimberly Clark at the beginning of the 1990s In the early 1990s, Kimberly Clark Company used CoformTM technology (a technology more similar to hydro-jetted nonwoven fabrics, rather than air-laid pulp, or dry papermaking) in its baby wipes. When the curious baby wipes produced by the Coform method entered the market, the curious baby wipes that were as smooth as silk gradually replaced the Rando Webber method baby wipes that were once the market leader and were frequently copied. The Coform method can produce high-quality baby wipes with good strength and softness, moderate bulkiness, but high cost.
The substrate using spunlace technology has a three-dimensional and three-dimensional entangled structure in its fibers, which has more water absorption space than other technologies. Moreover, the base material is formed by fiber entanglement without the need to add chemical adhesives. Therefore, the base material has good flexibility and safety. Moreover, the special product structure and manufacturing process of the spunlace substrate gives the product a hollow structure, but it does not lose the fiber. When the fiber contacts the surface of the wiped object, the friction area increases, which brings comfort and efficiency clean. Due to the reduction in production costs and the increase in the variety of raw materials used, the application of hydro-jet nonwovens in baby wipes has become increasingly widespread. Procter & Gamble has used spunlace nonwovens in its baby wipes in Europe. Thanks to the joint efforts of Procter & Gamble and Kimberly Clark, many high-quality baby wipes use spunlace non-woven fabrics as the base material.
1-1 The second saying about baby wipes’ history 1-2-1 invented by Nice-Pak company The origin of baby wipes most likely came in the mid-1950s as more people were traveling and needed a way to clean up on the go. One of the first companies to produce these was a company called Nice-Pak. They made napkin sized paper cloth saturated with a scented skin cleanser. Rockline Industries of Sheboygan, Wisconsin (which has a large part of the private label wipe market in several segments) went on to be the first to innovate the first baby wipe refill pack and pop-up packs which have become common in the marketplace.
1-2-2 The first baby wipes marketed by Kimberly-Clark & Procter & Gamble
The first wet-wipe products specifically marketed as baby wipes, such as Kimberly-Clark's Huggies wipes and Procter & Gamble's Pampers wipes, appeared on the market in 1990. As the technology to produce wipes matured and became more affordable, smaller brands began to appear. By the 1990s, most superstores like Kmart and Wal-Mart had their own private label brand of wipes made by other manufacturers. After this period there was a boom in the industry and many local brands started manufacturing because of low entry barriers.
2- Material, ingredients of baby wipes 2-1 What are baby wipes made of? What are the ingredients in baby wipes? Baby wipes are made of spunlace nonwoven fabric sheets from the original pulp, cotton fabric, bamboo fabric, viscose fiber, polyester, etc.

How to dissolve baby wipes in the toilet / why can't you flush baby wipes / why can't you flush baby wipes / what baby wipes are flushable? How to unclog a toilet clogged with baby wipes?
It is best to dispose of baby wipes in the trash bin. Still, in any event, we use wet wipes often to clean up after fecal discharge. Choose an alternative baby wipes like flushable baby wipes. But suppose you have been flushing your non-biodegradable baby wipes in the toilet and causes toilet blockage or toilet clogged. In that case, use sulfuric acid cleaners to dissolve baby wipes in the pipeline or septic tank. Wear protective gloves and goggles while using the solution, and work in a well-ventilated area to avoid strong chemical fumes. Never mix beach-cleaners or any other chemical to sulfuric acid to prevent a dangerous chemical reaction.

How long do baby wipes last unopened? Usually, the wipes packages have seals for leak-prevention and moisture maintenance. Before the unveiling, the shelf life can last for 2 to 3 years based on some brands but most baby wipes brands do not have an expiration date. Wet wipes do not truly expire but instead, the moisture lessens thus leads to losing its effectiveness or mold development in some cases.
After the package opening, if the packages are sealed well or buckled up, it can last for a few months. Since there is no strong preservative in baby wipes, the pre-moistened wipes with the main ingredient of purified water can’t be kept for a long time to prevent new bacterial generation.
How long is baby wipes good for? Baby wipes are good until it keeps its moisture, it is important to keep the lid or opening close after each use to seal in moisture. If the moisture in baby wipes isn’t be dried away, the ingredients in the wipes can still be effective for cleaning.
Baby wipes: how to make sanitizing wipes? Many people can’t buy enough sanitizing wipes or disinfectant wipes since it is in great demand, the shelves often stay empty.
So many people searched how to make baby wipes into sanitizing wipes? Baby wipes are dermatologically tested to maintain alcohol-free ingredients. According to cdc.gov, choose hand sanitizing wipes with at least 60% alcohol. There are two types of alcohol you can use, ethanol alcohol, which is alcohol that we drink, and isopropyl alcohol. To turn your baby wipes into DIY antibacterial wipes, sanitizing wipes, or homemade sanitizing wipes to kill viruses & germs, you can put 60% or 70% alcohol into the package. Add a few drops of essential oils to make it gentle on your hands. The average alcohol mixture depends on the package size (portable Pocket packets/tubs/Bottle/Canister). See below the list of ingredients and the right measurement:
*1 cup of alcohol *1 pack of baby wipes (alternative to baby wipes: spunlace nonwoven fabric dry wipes, thick paper towel, or dried out wipes) *10 drops of essential oil (lavender, aloe vera, tea tree oil, chamomile, etc.) *4 tablespoon Aloe vera gel (optional for extra moisturizing ingredient)
It is best to transfer your DIY sanitizing wipes into a sealed HDPE canister to maintain moisture. Research source: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/hand-sanitizer.html

https://preview.redd.it/l614xz73tqa61.jpg?width=538&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=215809382ac6da18dcf81b643f71136e7caf1a7e
Baby wipes: how to make disinfectant wipes? Baby wipes may be used as DIY disinfecting wipes or homemade disinfectant wipes by adding bleach, and water into the package. Let it sit for 10 to 15 mins so the wipes can absorb all the ingredients before use. Disinfectant wipes are more effective if you apply them to the surface and let it dry for 3 to 5 mins.
If you prefer to make your baby wipes to DIY Clorox disinfecting wipes, or homemade Clorox household wipes here are the ingredients and exact measurement:
*2 cups of water *2 ½ tablespoon of Clorox bleach *1 pack of baby wipes (alternative to baby wipes: spunlace nonwoven fabric dry wipes, thick paper towel, or dried out wipes)
DIY disinfecting wipes should be kept out of children’s reach to avoid inhaling and ingesting. Research source: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/disinfecting-your-home.html
As a manufacturer of wet wipes, we suggest you should take care and take extra precautionary measures to turn baby wipes into antibacterial hand wipes. As you may not have accurate control on adding correct measurements on ingredients to assure the effectiveness of the wipes. In the All Clean Natural China production line, we have continuous research and analysis the perfectly measure the exact percentage and weight for each ingredient. Our products have been tested in the labs before each batch is moved into our supply building.
If you will use baby wipes as DIY antibacterial wipes, the major dilemma is: most baby wipes are pre-moistened, the spunlace non-woven fabric carries usually two times or more weight of liquid (for example our liquid weight in baby wipes is three times the dry wipes weight). If you add extra liquid into the wipes, the non-woven fabric will soak with too much liquid. You can either remove excess liquid from the container or add dry wipes or paper towels to sip excess liquid. After cleaning on surfaces or hands, leave the surface area longer to dry out to kill germs and bacteria.
How to make DIY Lysol wipes? DIY Lysol wipes have the same essential ingredients as the DIY disinfecting wipes, DIY Clorox wipes, or DIY Lysol wipes. For best results, use a dry paper towel or dry wipes.

•Putting the nonwoven raw material spunlace on the machine Raw material such as quality cotton fabric, bamboo fabric or bamboo fiber, original pulp, viscose fiber, and polyester enters the feeding machine to open and lose fibers and remove impurities.
•Folding into the wipe Clean loose fibers are folded into a single fiber in preparation to enter the carding machine.
•Liquid feeding The high-pressure water jet is applied to fiber to form the “web.” The current technology in manufacturing spunlace can generate sufficient fiber dispersion to meet market demands in spunlace cloth.
•Cutting the wipe roll Jumbo spunlace roll is slit or cuts based on client requirement. Wet Wipes length & width is customized.
•Wipe stacking The wet wipes are overlapped and interleaved with one another (40, 50) to accommodate an improved stacking arrangement whereby each wipe can be readily singly separated from the wet wipe stack by the consumer.
•Online Detection Online detection for quality inspection advances the quality of spunlace nonwoven fabric. Accurate testing to entrap contamination with abrupt rejection. It can magnify even the slightest hairline impurity.
•Bagging The automatic packing machine can be adjusted or customized to various package sizes and designs with products brand label and logo.
•Sealing Automatic machine guarantees end seal control and end protection.
•Manual Checking Strict manual checking by engineers and operators following checklist and guidelines. Whole dimension, optical and functional inspection of material samples. Monitor quality control plan of inspected properties and alert engineering staff of significant variations.

Popular Terminology:

Casting Number - Letters and numbers used to identify all parts of a Hot Wheels car. The casting is the car itself.
Treasure Hunt - Highly Sought after cars with lower production numbers hidden in the yearly releases.
Tampos - Graphics that are applied to a car, usually in a silk screen process. Newer processes involve digital printing.
Card/Blister - The Packaging the car is sold in/on.

Blackwall - AKA Basic Wheel. Cars made in the late 70s to 80s have a distinctive black tire. Newer models have a concave version to protect the chrome finish.

Popular questions:

What is a treasure hunt/super treasure hunt? Special cars hidden in the mainline that are highly collectible. Regular hunts are limited production (Mattel does not report actual numbers) and are identified with a flame logo. Super Treasure Hunts are variations of mainline cars with Real Rider Tires (rubber) and Spectraflame paint. They are highly sought after and have a TH logo. More info can be found here: http://www.hwtreasure.com/
I found an old car; what is it worth?
Odds are, not much. Most of the more valuable cars are from the original lines (1968-late 70s) that are called Red lines. Many cars made in the 90s to now have nominal value. There are outliers however. Checking your car on ebay Sold listings may give you a good idea of its value.
My car says 1988 on the bottom but it seems new. Is it that old?
The date on the bottom if the car is the copyright date of the original casting, not necessarily when it was actually made.
Should I buy as an investment?
Unless you're buying older, already high priced cars, probably not. Again, most cars will stay around the original $1 in value, even on card.
What should I collect?
Whatever you like! There is no 'wrong' car to buy. Be it Hot Wheels, MatchBox, or any of the other brands its up to you. Sometimes folks start out and buy EVERYTHING. It is a good idea to pick a focus if you're starting out: Muscle cars, Yellow cars, Cars made in Britain, etc... just so you don't get away from yourself!
Should I open my cars?
It's personal preference. As of the late 2000s Mattel began showing more art on the blister cards so folks liked to display them in package. Others love to open and play with them (they are toys after all!). End of the day, its up to you. Worst case, you can always get two!
I just inherited 200+ cars. How can/should I sell them?
Older cars (redline era) can generally be sold with ease as they are highly collectible. Larger lots of new cars should probably be sold as a group. While you can list every car you have, it can take time. Shipping is also a concern as you would be spending a lot on postage. Its a time vs. money question: If you have the time smaller groups. Want a cash now? Sell as a lot. eBay is the most popular option for online sales. You can also get a booth at a flea-market or show and sell there.
What is Kday?
K-Day is a semi-yearly event held at K-Mart stores where collectors can open new Hot Wheel cases and look for cars. More info can be found here.

  • Pharmacy/Convience: stores like WalGreens locate! (currently carrying older CC and retro lines as well as new 50th series) CVS, RiteAid, DUANEreade also carry cars. Generally run over $1.50 for mainlines and higher for premium models.
  • General Grocery stores: Depending when you live your local chain may have them in the toy aisle or in a display somewhere in the store. Be sure to check end caps and near children oriented foods (Cereal aisle for example).

Brickseek stock Checker:

If you're looking to save some time on checking WalMart or Target, I suggest using BrickSeeks inventory checker. You can put in the Target or WalMart ID's and it should return results on inventory. The examples below are for the Car Culture line. UPCs can be found on the back of the blister. SKU and DPCI are generally found on the shelving price information in store and/or online.
Walmart SKU: 805984709
Target DPCI: 087-07-5547
UPC: 887961619805
FYIs
  1. WalMarts inventory is sometimes sketchy stock may not be correct.
  2. Targets checker does NOT show individual cars. they could have 20 of one car for all the checker knows.
  3. These checkers do not account for lost or stolen stock. If its stolen they wont know to adjust numbers as the checkers work with the stores internal database.

M2: EXAMPLE M2 Chases have yellow paint where you would expect to see chrome and/or gold additions/variations. They also make "raw version" which are unpainted.
GreenLight: EXAMPLE GreenLights chase cars have Green Tires and rims and are called "green machines"
Auto World: EXAMPLES AW's chase cars are called "UltraRed" and have a popping red paint job.
Johnny Lighting: EXAMPLE
JL has a great write up on thier site:
WHITE LIGHTNING CARS What is a White Lightning car? The White Lightning variation is Johnny Lightning’s chase car, a concept introduced to the die-cast market by Playing Mantis owner Tom Lowe in 1994. Most Johnny Lightning cars will have a version featuring some special traits that distinguish it from the regular release. These cars are randomly packed into the shipping cartons at the factory. Usually the special traits are white and usually the car will have a combination of two. Here’s a list of common White Lightning features:
White Body / Pearl White / Body Metallic / Gold Body / White Chassis / White Tires / White Rims / Gold Rims / White Interior / Tinted Glass
It’s important to note, however, that some cars only get one distinguishing trait and in the past some have received as many as three.
It's worth noting MatchBox does NOT have Thunt/Chase cars, at least as of now.

EURO UPDATE! Courtesy of crank_case

Tesco is a British (UK) chain supermarket that operates in Ireland also - so the Irish site is https://www.tesco.ie/ while the UK site is https://www.tesco.com/
Smyths Toys - are an Irish family owned chain of toy stores that also have branches in the UK. There is a single website for the UK and Ireland with currency options for Euros or GBP. Smyths are also going to expand into Germany, Austria and Switzerland by taking over the Toys'r'Us stores in those countries. https://www.smythstoys.com/
Dealz - a UK owned chain that operates as Poundland in the UK, but obviously because we use Eurodollars rather than Brexit beer tokens, the name wouldn't make sense here, so it's called Dealz. A wonderland of random pointless tat, sporadic batches of Hot Wheels/Matchbox and junk food. http://www.dealz.ie/
Marks Models - a small chain of stores (it's a small country), that specializes in all aspects of modelling - kits, trainsets, paint etc. One store in Dublin City, one outside Dublin in Greenogue and one in Cork city. Like I mentioned, they don't regularly stock hot wheels but do get batches of new old stock so sometimes you find great stuff from the 90s to mid 2000s http://www.marksmodels.com/
Toymaster - this one's a strange one, because it's an association of toy stores not a chain. Shops use the same Toymaster branding and combined buying power to compete with chains/supermarkets but each shop is independently owned, so there's no consistency in what each store stocks.
Halfords - a UK owned chain of car and bicycle accessory stores that stocks Hot Wheels but only for part of the year, usually singles in Spring/Summer and multipacks in the lead up to Christmas, but even in the spring/summer period, stock varies wildly from a bonanza to zero stock. http://www.halfords.ie/ is the Irish site, while the UK site is http://www.halfords.com/

If there is something of interest you think should be included please let me know!

Purchasing originals and prints

If you'd like to purchase an original or a print, PM me and I'll organise the delivery. Pricing for Originals can be found within the comment section of the post, whereas for Prints the prices are as follows:

A4 Select series $10
A4 Regular series $8
A3 Select series $17
A3 Regular series $13

Multiple A4 purchases
2 A4 Select Series $9.50 each
3 or more A4 Select Series $9 each
2 A4 Regular Series $7.50 each
3 or more A4 Regular Series $7 each

Multiple A3 purchases
2 A3 Select Series $16 each
3 or more A3 Select Series $15 each
2 A3 Regular Series $12.25 each
3 or more A3 Regular Series $11.50 each

I recommend purchasing a rigid mailer for deliveries as they ensure the safety of the prints/originals. The AusPost pricing is $1.25 for an A4 mailer and $2.42 for an A3 mailer. If you would like to purchase multiple copies it is best to do so all at once as you can save on the price of the mailers.

Purchase does not include postage delivery. Delivery is done via standard AusPost mailing unless requested otherwise. If you live in Sydney I could organise a pickup in the city if convenient; I'm usually in the city on weekends and Wednesday evenings.

All Prints are available either on a 300gsm matte, or 210gsm gloss. On A3 paper the details would not be as fine as the pen lines get noticeably thicker; the original drawings were done on an A4 sized sketch book, most of which do not cover the whole page. However if mounted on a wall it still looks as good from afar.

Every post is linked to a high-res image, if you wish to download the images to print on your own you are welcome to do so, but I appreciate every purchase you guys make as it really motivates me to continue drawing :) Also you are free to post my drawings elsewhere, as long as I'm credited for the work. Purchase of a print will have my original signature and a written message if requested.

I recommend mounting the prints on a plain black photo frame. Kmart and Officeworks have very cheap frames as low as $2

Happy browsing! I've been wanting to do this for a very long time.

The Old Razorback Drive-In

Hello fellow Arkansas Redditors! I was requested by my parents (who are computer illiterate) to find some photos of the old Razorback Drive-In. It was sort of a cultural touchstone for them (as I'm sure it was for many of your parents who came of age between in the 60s/70s/80s), but the problem is, I think I've failed them.
After an exhaustive search, I've only managed to turn up a few "pictures," which primarily seem to be concept art. Another is an aerial photo from a 1970s city map, and the other two are yearbook scans that point to the drive-in still being active in the 70s and 80s (and one gives a partial address and telephone number). These photos have only piqued my interest. They, along with the other visual clues I've collected along the way, are attached in the link to an Imgur album.
So here's what I know for sure:
I've looked everywhere I can think of for photos: newspapers, microfilm, yearbooks, maps, websites, PDFs, etc.
The search is ongoing, so here's what yearbooks I have looked through cover-to-cover and we can pretty much rule out that they don't have a photo of the drive-in:
LR Central "The Pix"
1961, 1962, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988
Hall High Warrior
1974, 1975, 1980, 1981, 1982
UALR Trojan (LRU then)
1969
If anyone has any advice, would like to pool resources, or knows a parent/relative/sibling that has bettecorrect info, I'd love to hear about it!
Thank you so much for reading if you made it this far, by the way!
Album: http://imgur.com/a/5hkfE
Edit 1: Cleaned up some grammaspelling mistakes, sorry for that sloppiness everyone!
Edit 2: Thanks to everyone for taking an interest in this, it makes my heart swell (really!) that there are others out there who care about this forgotten place! I found an article that mentions a ton of drive-ins earlier today on my lunch break in the ADG archives that gives some more concrete details and I'll post it here soon, thanks again!
Edit 3: Here's the article I pulled from the ADG: Some Movie Houses Hereabouts Projected Real Class' by Jack W. Hill, printed in the 8/24/95 edition of the ADG in the Style Section:
"...You can also drive into the property a bit and see some of the speaker posts. What nostalgia! The screen was there until a couple of years ago. (1988) The Razorback Drive-In was one of the last to thrive, on the site of the Harvest Foods Extra store on Cantrell Road. It yielded to the demands of commercial enterprise. A Kmart, now defunct too, was built at the west end of the space. Ironically, one of those new 10-screen multiboxes is going into part of that building.
(The Razorback had originally been at 21st and Barber streets, on the site of what is now Booker Junior High, visible from Interstate 30, near Roosevelt Road, back before there was an interstate, of course. I remember one of my first dates, in 1961, was for an evening here.) Does anyone else remember the Pines Drive-In? It was briefly on the northwest corner of Mississippi Street and Cantrell Road, bounded by pine trees, of course. There's now a Texaco gas station there, with a pawn shop south of that. Farther west on the site, there's a former One Source Home & Building Center, and a sign for an Ace Hardware store that doesn't appear to be visible. The John Flake firm has a sign here too, offering some part of this property. (1955) So much for the local drive-in movie experience..."
Edit 4: Heard back from Pulaski County GIS, no luck with them either. Message pasted below:
Unfortunately our data will not be any assistance to you in your endeavor. The earliest digital orthophotography for Little Rock that we have is from 1997. The only other photography that we may have would be from 1990 and it is in print form and is stored somewhere in a warehouse. Don’t know if this would help but AHTD may have some older aerials since part of Cantrell Road is designated as a highway (Highway 10) but that would be a long shot. Sorry we couldn’t be of further assistance.
Going to try AHTD next. Will keep everyone posted - and thanks for all the help!
Edit 5/Update 4.2.13 Good news from ATHD, email pasted below from PE,PS Division Head Kit Carson:
We should have aerial photo coverage in the area of the Razorback Drive-In starting around 1970. Contact Lindy Bragg or Valarie Nichols in our Photogrammetry Section (569-2409). They can provide you information on what is available. The cost of the photo(s) depends on the size desired.
Will be in contact with the aforementioned names ASAP!
Edit 6/Update 4.3.13 More good news! Got in touch with the Arkansas AHTD photogrammetry department and they do have photos of the available for a small price. Obviously, I'm going to purchase them as soon as possible and will scan/upload them to the current album. The email, which also helps narrow down the dates of its operation, is pasted below:
All evidence of the drive-in ever existing are gone by 1985 photography. We have 1969 when it was definitely still operating. In 1981 it looks like all buildings associated w/ it are gone. We would also have the site in 1977. We could print this site on a 10"x10" for 14.25 ea. The scale would be 1" 400', giving you close to 3/4 of a square mile. All photos would be black and white. If you can bill to a company we can charge it. Otherwise you would need to send a check before order would be processed. thanks

Questions Answers
Pros/cons on the Red Ryder BB gun? Will I really shoot my eye out? I never owned one, I played with real guns.
I have yet to put my eye out with a real gun as the NRA first rule of safe gun handling is branded into my brain.
What's your view on Michael Moore's film 'Bowling for Columbine'? It was completely irrelevant to firearms and a hack job.
MM is great at RAISING AWARENESS and public debate. For example, one guy had Humana as an HMO and they would not approve his transplant. So he threw a funeral in front of HQ and the guy got his pancreas. Terrific!
How BFC was relevant is beyond me.
Can you explain why you think the film is irrelevant to firearms? People who shoot at bowling pins are murderers, right?
A bank that is a licensed gun dealer in a town where hunting is big are supporting murder, right?
People who build missiles for lockheed martin are supporting murder, right?
KMART IS EVIL (ok, they are for different reasons)
I found the whole thing to be specious.
You seem to have made a very clear mental division between firearms and crime, when a gun crime occurs in your local area do you equate that with your business? I do understand that the majority of those with guns are not criminals. I do when DHS or ATF comes by and they say this gun used to shoot at this cop came from you - but that hasn't happened yet.
Most of your gun crime comes from stolen firearms.
Also do you believe that people should keep a firearm at home? I think you should have a right to, in terms of freedom of choice in the same terms that I think you should have the right to build a Supra that does a 10 second 1/4 mile.
Despite their physical capabilities of handling and prevention of it being used against them? Is it a good idea to give someone who has a physical infirmity a 10 second car? Absolutely not. Does that mean that they can't drive? Case by case basis.
Would you prefer firearms were solely purchased for hunting purposes? I've gone hunting, it was a neat experience but again - freedom of choice. I can kill with an over under Browning shotgun just the same (and in very limited circumstances, quicker) as I can with a semi auto Benelli M1. If the law limited firearms to be purchased only for hunting - we'd just start hunting people.
So if DHS or ATF did come to you, what action would you take with your future business practice? None. You can't preempt illegal activity.
I'm not certain I understand your scenario, can you rephrase?
To rephrase; do you agree that some people take liberties with firearm security, and some people are legally able to obtain a gun but not have the physical or mental capability to use it. Also do you think that you could aid you're customers and society in counteracting these issues? I agree with both scenarios. It exists, there is no way to stop it either by legislation or by common sense.
If someone wants help and I can provide, I will provide.
Presumably you're against gun control legislstion? Yes and no, I understand the desire and the objective of some laws but there are a lot that are very poorly written, and very poorly understood that in many cases do nothing to prevent crime.
Fair enough. Assault is a behavior, not a device.
I'm a pretty liberal person, but I don't really have a problem with people owning handguns, shotguns, or rifles. Are you aware of the statutory definition of what constitutes an "assault rifle"? Don't google it and I'll explain in gross technical detail.
I've just never really understood why someone would need to own an assault rifle or an extended magazine. Extended magazines? Define extended. Some firearms were designed to accept a magazine of X size and that is just how it is done.
Extended magazine, as in the clip used in the Giffords shooting. Reddit ate my long post to this so I'll clarify. Extended magazine implies you take an existing magazine and made it larger. Clip refers to a stamped piece of metal that holds ammo together (at most 10 rounds). The giffords shooting used hardware that I have on my shelf and so do many other gun dealers. The device isn't the issue here, the mentally unstable operator is. The last high profile case of an automatic rifle (read illegal machinegun) was the North Hollywood Bank Heist in 97. Why would you want to own one? They're fun. The fully automatic AK or M16 that you mentioned are also $15-18,000 each. I sell three-four of them a year to recreational shooters/collectors.
Uh, assault rifle...like an automatic rifle. AK, M16, etc. I just never really got why someone would need to own one.
Speaking of Zombies, I've noticed the Zombie craze is driving actual products in the firearms field such as this from reputable manufacturers. As someone who grew up around guns and gun safety, to me selling guns through this kind of marketing seems somewhat irresponsible. What are your thoughts? I think it is ri-god-damn-diculous.
I've been on the fence for years about owning a gun. I don't have one, but think it might be prudent in the event of a Katrina-like emergency or something the like. I don't think I'd ever leave it anywhere useful for a home invasion or burglary, but rather stored away for extreme emergency. What advice or perspective can you give? Thanks. My insurance company warned me about giving advice to occasionally drunk people but.........
I think owning a firearm is prudent, I think it is part of being responsible and learning how to protect yourself in the event 911 does not work. You have to remember that the police department does not protect people, they protect society.
There are many folks who have a firearm stashed away in the event of an emergency. There's nothing wrong with that.
That being said, I have this theory that Obama's election was the best thing to ever happen to the NRA and gun industry. I mean seriously, shouldn't the NRA form a superPAC to get him re-elected? The NRA has a tendency towards bi-partisan fearmongering. If you listen to the NRA, they BELIEVE THAT OBAMA IS GOING TO RUIN THE SECOND AMENDMENT when in actuality there has been little/no evidence of gun control legislative proposals. Yes, he voted for the AWB - but then so did most of the democratic party when it was up for a vote.
Fast and furious scandal? What about it? It was a charlie foxtrot.
What do you manufacture? Because ATF has a strange set of rules: Nothing.
Someone brings in a Glock 17 they want to trade in towards a new gun. It has a broken rear sight. I can put on a new rear sight in 2 minutes and add to the value of the gun on resale. ATF says you cannot do that without being a manufacturer. I thought it was a bit extreme but that is the way it is.
On occasion I will do some custom work for someone that is easier because I have a manufacturers license and it makes getting some parts easier as I don't have to worry about having machinegun parts and stuff lying around, but all in all I don't make anything. 9 months ago I had someone come in with a pistol they wanted to turn into an SBR and I do that sort of thing from time to time when someone knows what they want.
Every gun owner has their favorite, what's yours? Specifically regarding?
Your favorite sex act? Retrograde wheelbarrow.
Your favorite gun? I'm very fond of my Uzi.
I'm thinking of buying a FN PS90, I have yet to find anything bad about this gun. Do you know of anything wrong/bag about this gun? It shoots really expensive ammo.
Yeah, but nothing about the weapon itself. I think they're neat, I wouldn't buy one personally but FN makes a neat gun.
I would prefer a nice AR-15, but due to some back issues, I need something lighter and easier to handle. Knowing that, what would you recommend? If you are putting a priority on weight, stick with a DI gun not a piston gun.
Have you seen Sons of Guns? If so, please provide your thoughts on this show. Sons of guns is to the firearm industry as Jersey Shore is is to people from the northeastern USA.
Not an accurate representation and it makes me weep for the future.
Yes, they do a lot of neat things. No, none of it is realistic and the overwhelming amount of the stuff they do is regulated under the National Firearms Act - meaning most people will never be able to purchase it as it was produced after May of 1986.
I thought as much. So as a follow-on question to that, have any of the antics from that show caused an influx of crazy/stupid/ridiculous requests for your business? Yep. Silencers for AK's, and here is why.
People see it on Sons of Guns so HOLY CRAP I CAN DO THAT. I WANT IT ME LIKEY SHINEY OBJECT.
So, you want to silence an AK? Throw me plenty of money because here is the process.
We take your gun. We throw away the barrel. Yes, your barrel is threaded however 999/1000 AK barrels are threaded in a fashion that is not concentric to the bore, meaning it is USELESS. This is like making a car that you can't align the wheels.
We get a new barrel that IS threaded concentric to the bore or we make threads concentric to the bore.
Most people who own an AK cannot afford 1, much less 2 but in the event they are able to - we get a 7.62 caliber rifle can and we threadmount it or QD mount it.
We put a high quality 7.62 can on and sell the part and labor as a package.
You wait 6-8 months for the paperwork to come back.
You shoot it and get mad because the $1000+ you spent does not suppress your AK worth jack shit. You literally throw $1000-1500 into a $399 gun.
Where can you pick up a decent AK for $399 these days? Century.
What insanity are you referring to when you say "Zombies/Obama/Mayan 2012 coming up"? Right now inventories are tight because of strong sales, whether that be because people are thinking the world is going to end, Barack Obama will get a second term or if ZOMBIES will inherit the earth is beyond me.
I had read about the gun and ammo hoarding as Obama was elected but 4 years later, are people STILL going crazy? What kind of ammo hoarding have you heard about? I am having a very hard time stocking ammo right now.
One customer wants to spend $20,000 and warehouse ammo for the election and he wants to double his money.
There are a lot of insane theoretical scenarios out there.
You know, he probably will double his money. Nobody foresaw what happened.
I wish I'd had the foresight to stockpile .380 Auto a few years ago. I could have made a mint. Truth be told - I should have sold EVERYTHING I OWNED just to get rid of it.
How do you think Ruger halting orders will affect the industry and prices? Were any of your orders affected? Do you think we will ever get affordable surplus .223 ammo if we ever reduce our presence in the middle east? Is the FN Five-seveN just expensive because of its "cop killer" reputation? I think it looks cool and I want to own one before it gets banned in California, but I think it's just a stupid caliber and way too expensive for what it is. Cheapest price I can find is $1079 (before taxes and fees), good price? Do you hate 03 FFLs or is that not a business you really care to be in anyway? What is involved in becoming an instructor? What classes do you offer? Are there any alternative instructor certification to NRA? My target audience is not NRA friendly. Ruger is not dealer direct, so I'm not directly impacted but it shows you the amount of hysteria that is going on. If everyone in your town wants ot start buying gas on one day EVERY GAS STATION IN TOWN WILL SELL OUT. This is the same thing. 03's aren't even a business, I can't see how any of that would be relevant. If your target audience is not NRA friendly, then what do they expect from you? Do they want you to have creds through the Hollywood Upstairs Tactical Shooting Academy of Southern California?
Best firearm for collectible value that you can still occasionally shoot? Affordable is relative. 223/556 ammo is affordable now at 35 cents a round IF you can find it.
It's expensive because it is a very limited market and very few people want it with a 16" barrel. BTW - my standard question that answers a question is Collectible in terms of nobody has one or collectible in terms of what? I need a little more here. I went to NRA instructor boot camp for a week. Worst week of my life, the food was bad, I was perpetually pissed off all the time, et al but IT IS DONE AND I NEVER HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN. I am capable of teaching any NRA class save for personal protection inside/outside of the home. There are very few nationally syndicated instructor programs, you may find certification on a state level but in my area - state certification is more difficult.
Do you know what the difference between a regular bullet and a cop killer bullet is? The regular bullet missed.
Best tactical shotgun and why??? I'm torn. I like the 1100 and 1187 but I do like the Benelli M1.
The 1100 and 87's work great but they are prone to fouling. The M1's eat anything and can run hard.
I say the M1.
Thank you sir! This is what I have been looking at anyway. What would a fair price on a new one? in your opinion of course. I actually have NO IDEA because I am not a Benelli dealer. They run north of $1k though IIRC.
I'm thinking about getting a shotgun but I can't decide the Mossberg 500 and Winchester 870 Express. Do you have a preference or is there an even better option out there? this would mostly be for home protection. Winchester does not make an 870.
However, Remington does.
Parts are equally available on both - you won't go wrong with either even though I think pumps are for rednecks.
Sorry i meant remington. what do you like - gas powered? I like the 1100/87 because well, I'm me. It's pretty easy to short stroke a pump gun under stress and I've always viewed pumps for rednecks.
Do you sell Grenade Launchers? I believe some states they're legal. Most popular firearm sold? I do not have a destructive device endorsement. Even if I did, the market is severely limited as each grenade has a $200 tax.
Most popular firearm - Glock.
Chris? 2. I'm looking at a concealed carry piece. What are your thoughts on the Ruger LC9 v. the Taurus 709 slim? No.
The LC9 isn't bad, I like Ruger CS moreso than Taurus CS though. I sell a few LC9's here and there but not many.
Are you a fan of Top Shot? Favorite firearm? It's not a bad show. I fast forward through all the drama and I watch the challenges.
I liked the SP89 with Dustin Ellermann, I would love to see more subgun involved.
How much time do you spend on reddit each day answering gun questions and giving advice/opinions? Are you a regular at any other gun forums? A bunch. There's not much to do when you're waiting for UPS, background checks to clear, etc etc. It's like poker - hours of boredom punctuated with moments of sheer terror.
I am on about a dozen other gun forums.
What is the most popular handgun in the United States? Depends on where you are in the US, but I'd say Glock and 1911's have the market equally saturated.
Not saying that you are responsible because there must be thousands of merchant of death online, but this explains a lot of the culture and opinions on gun forums. Yeah, that's accurate.
Is a .45-70 1895 'guide gun' truly suitable for taking any land mammal, or is it a rather clumsy but powerful firearm? 45-70 used to shoot buffalo, so you could make it work for damn near anything.
Would it still be louder than hell? Thread the barrel, make a can large enough to accommodate the bullet.
We do it with 338 Lapua and 50BMG all the time.
AAC or SilencerCo? Yes.
No really, they're both good. I do a lot of business with both companies, and they have a very good reputation for doing good work. Silencerco has great customer service, AAC you are lucky to get on the phone. There are a lot of folks who are mad as hell that they can't get AAC on the phone to answer questions but that is because they are flooded doing higher priority things.
I do sell more AAC than Silencerco due to the breadth of their product line. I've got something like $30,000 worth of stuff on b/o at AAC.
I'm interested to see how these perform when they finally get them to the end users.
I put the 51T break on mine to stop the ringing. I also like that it acts as a sacrificial baffle to decrease wear on my silencer. It costs a little more, but no ringing and more protection for my investment make it a no brainer. Replacing a 51T MB is $150. Replacing a blast baffle is something you do not want to do.
I have small hands, what type of pistol would work for me that has very low recoil and is not a weak .22? This isn't easy to answer. If you are concerned about recoil, smaller caliber is the way to go but 22 is what you are going to have to use - preferably blowback operated.
What's the concern with recoil? I know grandmas that shoot 9mm in IDPA.
Do you have an online store? Yes. No, I won't post it publicly.
But didn't the shooter in the Giffords shooting have an extended magazine and he was stopped when he went to reload? So theoretically, had he not had the extended magazine, fewer people would have ended up shot/dead, assuming he would have been similarly stopped when he went to reload. The notion here is that you can legislate moments of insanity out of existence.
For instance, if you are held on a psychiatric hold for 72 hours - you can't do anything to harm yourself or others. If someone commits a murdesuicide on the 80th hour, then clearly fewer people would have ended up shot/dead if we had a 120 hour psychatric hold, right?
What do you think of the sigma .40 smith and wesson? I think they should dump ALL OF THEM in a river of toxic waste so nobody ever has to look at one again.
Harsh words. They're in Western Mass, which is already mostly rivers of toxic waste thanks to General Electric so they're already halfway there.
How did you get into this line of work? I've always been a gun nut.
I've always been interested in doing this sort of thing (becoming a gunsmith/armoremanufacturer), and I'm curious on the path you took to become one. I started an IDPA program before I was of legal age to actually buy a pistol from an FFL. I had the financial resources to go into business and live in poverty for a few years and nobody around my area handled anything awesome. So I started out and I'm doing ok, but don't do it if you need X dollars every month.
I'm thinking about buying a suppressor for my 10/22. I'm thinking going with an integral is the best way to go. Any suggestions on what manufacturers to look at? Integrals are going the way of the dodo bird for two reasons.
An integral is ALL THAT IT WILL EVER BE. You can't move it.
More expensive and more difficult to build.
There is a reason that the Gemtech Oasis is no longer in the catalog for 2012. They are such poor sellers that there is no incentive to production. I would go threadmount with either (no particular order here) the Outback 2, the Sparrow or the Element/Prodigy/Pilot.
I do stock the Outback 2 and the Sparrow, the element's have been hard to keep on the shelf.
Are you a 9mm, .40 or .45 guy? I own all but 40, because I regard 40 to be terrible.
What in particular (or in general) do you find terrible about .40? I think (know) it is snappy as hell.
Best gun for a 16 year old to begin his shooting "career" with? 10/22.
Have you tried shooting it with 180's? That seems to reduce the "snappiness" quite a bit. Yep. Still can't stand it.
I think it depends on the pistol. I shot a P99 in .40 and it was the most uncomfortable semi I ever touched. But an H&K P2000 (also .40) in mid-recoil was like holding a fuzzy sleeping kitten. I can barely tolerate 40S&W in any firearm.
Ok MAYBE an Limited/Modified gun for IPSC.
What do you think about Botach? "Yep, got 5 of them. It's $45 each."
"$45?!?!?!?!? I CAN GET THEM ON BOTACH FOR $30 WITH FREE SHIPPING BUT THEY ARE OUT OF STOCK!"
At this point I usually just hang up the phone.
Let me throw you an anecdote.
Botach has a tendency to sell items at cost just to piss off people.
One of my colleagues was working a government contract and Botach bid the job at cost just to piss him off. So, midway into the process he went to the purchasing officer and said that their product was not the newest producton utilizing the BTCKMAEDOTWATOS standard protocol. So he had them redo the procurement specs and he told the factory that he would be the only person to be able to sell product that met that specification.
BTCKMAEDOTWATOS - Botach Tactical can kiss my ass every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Are you as intrigued by 3D printing as I am? I imagine as a gunsmith you would find this peachy keen. I'm an armorer, not a gunsmith.
Link to singularityhub.com. It is intriguing, but then again will people pay for it?
Also, would you lose any sleep if one of your guns killed somebody in a crime? Nope. I didn't pull the trigger.
Of course they will pay for it. The question is, will they pay as much. It is but the next step in automation I don't see why not. I try to talk people out of Hipoints, and I am frequently unsuccessful.
The bottom line is that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.
I am unfamiliar with their product. Do they use 3d printing? The family brand is Remington btw. I'm not sure what you mean.
If you talked to 10 customers in a day, how many of them would typically bore the crap out of you? 9.5.
What is the deal with Hipoints and why are they relevant to 3D printing? They're cheap, they're terrible and people who have no idea what they are doing will continue buying them no matter how much you tell them it is a bad idea.
Gun owners are not typically amenable to suggestion.
Oh this is sad, I'm not walking into gun shop for a while. There are very few people that will challenge me with something technically or intellectually. Even fewer that can afford the solution that I offer them after I solve their problem for them.
For instance I had a guy who worked for an opaque hydrological company who wanted a bunch of stuff and he wanted creative legal work. I put a few hours into figuring out how to make it all work and he never called me back. Hours of boredom, for zero payback.
Was that the guy with the really strict purchase request regarding the serial numbers and paperwork, or was it someone different? How did that work out? No comment.
To ask someone far more knowledgeable than I on guns, what do you think of revolvers like the Mateba with the lower cylinder barrel? I think it is gimmicky as fuck. If it was a good idea, S&W would have done it by now.
I was raised with revolvers, so seeing the design choice got me interested in trying out a similar model, like the Chiappa Rhino in .357. Are there any other guns like this, or are these my only real options? The Rhino is going to be the only one like it.
Also, what do you think about gun auctions? Auctions? I don't go to enough to have expertise but I have heard they are a great place to sell because nobody knows how to buy.
I deal with idiocy every day, some days more than others.
I am in the market for a 1911 with a 4" barrel. What would you suggest if you have under $1000 to spend? Springfield IF you can find one.
True. Then again, a lot of the pieces were pretty rusted down. The Quackenbush took nearly 10 minutes and a can of breakfree to get the breach working properly. I think it was more for the 'Oooh, look what I got' instead of the serious collectors. I think they're neat. There is an (illogical) presumption that they work 100% of the time but that is up for debate.
As an extension of Obama and people thinking the end of the free world, is there a general time period when best to stock up on ammo? No, right now if you want it and you find it - buy it.
I remember reading a comment from you that you had a ton of stock on sale october or november or so last year.. so yeah, best time to bulk on ammo? I had a ton of stock that nobody wanted to buy in October, now everyone wants what I don't have.
to add: best times to buy guns? black friday - christmas season? There are no discounts from vendors on firearms - so it is retailer discretion.
Recommendations for a 150 dollar value light/laser combo for my H&K USP? Take a look at the Streamlight TLR series. Streamlight makes a good light, but we cannot compete with the large internet retailers that sell them for less than I can buy them for wholesale.
What does it take to get an 07 FFL? Since you're dealing in NFA gear, I assume you're in a friendly state. What item do you have in your possession is the coolest? Stated differently, what item, that if I had here in California with no FFL, would land me the the most jail time? Money. Be running a business and be ready to do paperwork.
Right now in my safe there are two HK MP5 clones, an integrally suppressed rifle, an M16, two short barrel shotguns and a few other things. That is just customer stuff that is pending transfer.
I have a shitload of stuff that is illegal under Roberti Roos, and I have a bunch of stuff that is illegal because it is NFA.
How long have you had your FFL? Two years.
Did you use one of those FFL kits to get started? Those kits are a total waste of money. I just did my homework and made a bunch of calls.
What do you think about someone who already works at home starting an FFL as a hobby part time by just doing transfers? It can be a good idea, it can be a total pain. I'll tell you right now that transfers are (barely) worth the effort. Yes, every week it's a few hundred bucks but my god I deal with some stupidity.
What would you say the yearly cost is of maintaining a basic FFL? Well your license for your first three years is $200, so that's not much.
I would like to have some work done on a PSG-1 i "inherited"...do you have any particular people you would recommend? What do you need done and how much are you willing to spend?
Match barrel, recoil comp, money isn't an issue, i just want it done right... Call Ralph Smith at RDTS - 480 488 2165 . All that is right up his alley.
What kind of rifle would you recommend for a beginner to start shooting with? Something cheap and reliable to practice marksmanship. Ruger 10/22.
What got you into your job? I'm unemployable anywhere else.
How so? I have no technical skills in any other field.
Proof? What do you want to see?
Your FFL license number would work (so it can be looked up online) - perhaps with a picture of you in place of work that would collaborate the FFL. Old photo of my bench
That work?
Is that a MP5 Navy? Clone, but as close as I can get without a demo letter.
Nice gatorade. Breakfast of champions.
Link to i39.tinypic.com. Also worth noting that gun collection is $3000, tops.
There's over $30,000 in that picture I posted.
Suggestions on the best route to becoming a gunsmith for someone with a wacky schedule? This is tough, I mean most gunsmiths go to CST or gunsmith school. How wacky is your schedule?
Traditionally you can pay a gunsmith for an apprenticeship and then work your way up.
